With over a decade of nursing experience as a clinician, management, educator, and patient advocate, I take pride in my role as a nurse with the patient population I serve. My passion started in critical care, but quickly transitioned to mental health nursing. As a Psych Nurse, I am cognizant of the stigma faced by this vulnerable population. One of my biggest passions is to help students identify their own stigma and encourage them to make changes with their own beliefs and actions that affect their provision of care and patient outcomes for this marginalized group.
I am double-board certified in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and Registered Nurse Mental Health level (RN-BC). At this time, I am a full-time nursing educator and a part-time PMHNP in private practice. I was initially an ADN prepared nurse, who went on to get my MSN, and later obtained my terminal Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree.
As one of the original members (and Executive Board member) of the sub-chapter from a few years ago, I am ecstatic that we have finally achieved our goal of becoming a full pledged chapter. This will not be an easy journey, but a challenge I will gladly tackle along with the rest of the members of our growing organization. It is my hope that through active engagement and commitment of our members, our organization creates a positive and lasting impact in all of our efforts -- locally, nationally, and internationally.
